Saga’s Spirit of the Rhine launches with Moselle itinerary

Saga’s new river vessel Spirit of the Rhine has departed on its maiden voyage in Germany – six months after the scheduled launch date.

The 190-passenger ship is sailing a 13-night Moselle Valley cruise from Trier and calling at Bernkastel, Traben-Trarbach and Piesport, all in Germany.

Forty officers and crew will serve the passengers and the 95 cabins are spread across four passenger decks.

Saga had planned to launch the vessel from Amsterdam on March 23, 2021, with a six-night Bootleg Beatles special-interest sailing.

Saga Holidays chief executive Chris Simmonds said: “Everything about the ship has been designed with our customers in mind giving them the option to do as much or as little as they like while onboard thanks to the wide range of facilities.

“And when they step ashore, we’ve carefully curated our itineraries to show them the best of the region with a range of unique experiences.

“Our cruises also come with a free VIP door-to-door travel service, travel insurance, meals and drinks, complimentary Wi-Fi and a range of excursions all included in the price.”

Spirit of the Rhine’s seven-night Beautiful Rhine and Main cruise departing from Frankfurt on November 8, 2021, leads in from £1,049. Ports of call include Aschaffenburg, Mainz, Rüdesheim, Boppard and Andernach, all in Germany.

Prices for the seven-night castles and vineyards of the Rhine cruise, departing on selected dates between October 2021 and October 2022 from Amsterdam start from £1,099.

Spirit of the Rhine’s sister ship Spirit of the Danube is due to be delivered in March 2022.
