You may find his cheesy grin a bit nauseating, but you have to take your hat off to Sir Richard Branson when it comes to self promotion. At the launch of Virgin Atlantic’s Gatwick-Las Vegas flights, the bearded-one spared no expense in decking out Leicester Square’s Equinox nightclub with Vegas-style bars, craps and roulette tables.
There was also, of course, the obligatory scantily-clad showgirls at the glittering event. Well, you can’t beat sex, drinking and gambling, can you?
For those who believe you can beat the above activities, there was also a fire-throwing magician, some celebrity lookalikes and a half-decent band.
We can only imagine what Virgin has planned when the flights actually start next month.
It made other recent events staged by tour operators look a bit drab.
And there were plenty of agents having a good time at the Virgin event.
When they shook off their hangovers and got back to work, I wonder whether they were promoting the commission-cutting British Airways or Virgin.
No, actually I don’t wonder.
