MP prompts trade to step up pressure
LABOUR MP Peter Snape has admitted that ministers have no understanding of business travel and urged the GBTA to increase its pressure on the Government not to impose further taxes. The West Bromwich East MP and parliamentary consultant for the Guild said politicians view the sector as an easy touch.
“The Government does not view business travel as price sensitive,” Snape told delegates at the GBTA conference.
“It has tabled a flagship transport bill that has 230 clauses and yet it’s impossible to find a single reference to business travel.”
Warning that pressure will grow on the Government to introduce a tax on aviation fuel, Snape told the GBTA to follow EasyJet’s example and increase its lobbying of government.
“EasyJet ran a relatively successful campaign that managed to persuade the Government to look at taxes,” he said.
