Accor adds Mercure brand to UK

ACCOR has introduced its midmarket Mercure brand to the UK with the opening of a hotel on London’s South Bank.

The Mercure London City Bankside opened last Thursday, close to the recently opened Tate Gallery of Modern Art and the London Eye.

The 100-room hotel has been designed for both tourists and business travellers, with laptop-sized safes in every room as well as two telephone lines, voicemail, modem points, iron and ironing board and 24hr room service.

Accor, which already operates its Novotel and Ibis brands in the UK, is the latest in a string of groups to open in this part of London.

The five-star Marriott chain and budget groups Travel Inn and Holiday Inn Express all have hotels in the area.

A spokesman for Southwark Council said: “This part of London is really starting to take off and was in desperate need of a midmarket hotel to cater for the increase in business travellers and tourists to the area.”
