Getting a taste of their own medicine
I read Noel Josephides’ column regularly, as a lot of what he says makes sense. How good it is to hear a tour operator complaining about not earning any commissions on car hire and insurance. Travel agents have put up with that for years.
Never mind earning commission for sales. A travel agent, for as long as I can remember, has always been expected to contact the client and make all the changes when a tour operator changes or cancels the holiday.
Come on Noel, you can’t blame the travel agent for trying to earn a living. Let’s face it, we earn the same commission levels now as we did over a decade ago. Our rents and salaries are rising along with other costs, but not our earning potential.
Maybe if tour operators paid commission for ancillary goods at the same rates we can get on the open market. However, it’s still a good column Noel.
