JMC in-resort meetings to sell timeshare

Thomas Cook has stopped selling timeshare through its high-street shops in favour of pushing the product via JMC’s in-resort welcome meetings.

The multiple is looking to redeploy 10 members of staff affected by the closure of the UKoperation. General manager of the operation Andrew Chapman was considering other roles within the company as Travel Weekly went to press.

Thomas Cook started selling trial holidays in the UK two years ago through its high-street shops and via direct mail campaigns but found that customers prefer to see timeshare properties while on holiday.

“We spent a considerable time training people within the retail network but experience taught us that people need to see and feel the product before buying. It is far easier to look at it in resort,” said Chapman.

JMCholidaymakers are now introduced to timeshare developments at the welcome meeting in 12 resorts.

Steve Allen, executive director of marketing for timeshare exchange company RCI said: “We are pleased that Thomas Cook has found the route that works for them.” He still believes there is scope to sell the product through the trade and is planning other initiatives with UKagents.
