BAA prepares for arrivals lounge summer roll-out at Heathrow T3

BAA opens its first arrivals lounge at Heathrow this summer.

The pay-per-visit facility called The Island will be in Terminal Three, the base for many long-haul airlines.

The opening date is scheduled for July 7, although the group is hoping it will be ready by June.

Passengers will initially pay £20 a visit with an introductory offer. Later in the year the cost will rise to £25.

Showers, business facilities and refreshments will be available.

A spokeswoman said BAA was talking to T3 carriers without arrivals facilities for input into services. These include Cathay Pacific, Air India and Gulf Air. Virgin Atlantic, American Airlines, United Airlines and Air Canada already have their own arrivals lounges.

The next lounge will also open in T3, in the departure area.

The spokeswoman said further lounges were planned at other BAA airports, especially Gatwick, and at BAA overseas airports. She added that BAA would also look to open facilities in other airports.

The airport group opened the Millennium Lounge at Stansted last year.

For £15, customers have access to food, drink and business facilities before departures.
