British Midland chief operating officer James Hogan bombed at the Institute of Travel and Tourism conference for plugging his own airline throughout his entire speech.

A cardinal sin at the ITT conference, Hogan received the claxon warning and was shot at with a spud gun by conference moderator Russell Amerasekera, but carried on regardless. Virgin.com’s Ian Brooks was harsh but fair when he attacked Hogan for spouting “corporate rhetoric” and claimed he had “abused my time”.

British Midland is indeed a fine airline but that’s not the point. Company advertisements masquerading as conference speeches are out of order.
