n page appointed association chairman


Christine Page, joint-managing director of recruitment company Changing Places, has been appointed chairman of the Association of Women Travel Executives. Page joined the organisation in 1994 and held the post of vice-chairman last year. She replaces Josiane Loutfi who stepped down at the end of her period of office.


n cruise passengers injured by freak wave


A freak wave blew out the windows of 10 passenger cabins on Orient Lines’ ship Crown Odyssey during a storm off the Cote d’Azur. The company said that 15 passengers visited the ship’s doctor with minor injuries, including cuts and bruises but there were no serious injuries. Orient Lines cancelled the next day’s port call in Majorca and sailed on to Barcelona where the damage was repaired in time for the next departure. The wave, estimated at 22ft-26ft high, hit cabins on the fifth and sixth decks in the early hours of the morning.


n styles appointed to thomas cook position


Thomas Cook has appointed Kevin Styles to the post of retail and direct marketing director. Styles joined the company as marketing manager for foreign exchange, long-haul holidays and cruise in November last year. He previously worked at Sainsbury’s and Thomson. Styles replaces Stephen Vowles, who left to go travelling earlier this year.


n forte, hilton and accor extend venture


Forte, Hilton and Accor are extending their Internet joint venture in Europe and launching another Web site for the Asia Pacific region. Starwood Hotels and Resorts has agreed to join the three existing partners to participate in the Asia Pacific initiative. The project will kick off at the end of this year.
