n Galaxy air holidays ceases trading


Leicester-based operator Galaxy Air Holidays has ceased trading. The short-break firm traded as Amazing Days, Farthing Holidays and Vintage Reader Travel. A coach holiday associate of the company, Galaxy Holidays Ltd, has also ceased trading.


n Page and Moy agrees deal with holiday autos


Holiday Autos has signed a deal to be the preferred car-rental supplier to Page and Moy. The operator already uses Holiday Autos, with a majority of its bookings made on the Internet.


n emirates boosts dubai summer capacity


Emirates is increasing capacity with two extra Gatwick-Dubai flights this summer. The usual daily service is increased to twice a day this Friday and on September 9. The UK Government gave Emirates special rights to offer the extra flights, which connect to new long-haul services to Australia and southeast Asia. Emirates’ thrice daily flights from Heathrow and a daily operation from Manchester are also showing high loads.


n trigger takes on aito chairman role


The Association of Independent Tour Operators has sworn in new chairman Colin Trigger at its annual general meeting. The Scantours chairman takes over from John Bennett who stepped down last week (Travel Weekly June 26).


n louis cruise lines purchases calypso


Louis Cruise Lines has bought a new ship at auction for $14m, bringing its total fleet to 23 vessels. Starting this month, the 615-passenger Calypso will operate five-day cruises from Cyprus to Greece and two-night trips to Rhodes. Before the acquisition, the ship was on charter to Transocean Tours.
