Premier introduces Howard Johnson brand to Scotland

PREMIER Hotels, which has the master franchise for US hotel chain Howard Johnson, has opened its first Scottish hotel under the mid-range brand.

The 72-bedroom Howard Johnson – situated on a former shipyard site in Greenock – has a room rate of £55 a night based on either double or twin accommodation with family rooms catering for two adults and two children under 12 years.

Premier’s £4m investment in the Greenock hotel marks the start of a £170m spend in Scotland by the company over the next 18 months. Next year’s openings will include a 184-bedroom Howard Johnson in Glasgow and a 130-bedroom hotel in Edinburgh. Sites have also been earmarked in Dundee, Aberdeen and Hamilton.

Premier, which also has the Days Inn franchise for the UK, opened its first Howard Johnson in the UK in West Bromwich in March. A third will open this autumn with the conversion of a property in London’s Wembley area to the brand.
