Coaching breaks for kids
Touring becomes a family affair
Why take your kids on a coach tour holiday? It’s a fair question and one which Trafalgar Tours sales director Matthew Lepisto has to answer to.“It’s true that a flydrive holiday offers more flexibility but the driver doesn’t get to enjoy the scenery and kids get bored,” he said. “We build in sightseeing tours and provide an open itinerary so there aren’t many trips to museums.”
Trafalgar doesn’t view coaching as suitable for the under fives but it does offer separate discounts for those aged between five-12 and 13-17.
Many of the firm’s tours which attract families are those that include a specific theme likely to be relevant to the child. Its tours to parts of Italy often include parents with teenagers who are studying art or art history.
Leger Holidays is the preferred UK coach tour partner to Disneyland Paris. The tours span three to five days departing from 300 towns and cities in England and Wales. Many of these tours are themed and accommodation is usually at one of three on-site hotels at Disneyland Paris.
Cosmos America general manager Graham Mumford said he has noticed an increase in single adults, usually a parent or a grandparent, travelling with teenage children. Mumford said it is a growing sector. “These types of customer are choosing group-escorted tours where they can spend more relaxing time with each other.”
