BA rethinks Concorde revamp

British Airways is considering bringing forward its £14 million plans to refurbish Concorde cabin interiors while the fleet is grounded.

A BA spokeswoman said: “With the whole fleet on the ground, it is feasible to bring the refit forward. It’s still early days and the refit was initially scheduled for February or March next year, but it could be earlier than planned.”

BA grounded its seven-strong fleet last week following warnings that Concorde’s airworthiness certificate was to be withdrawn from the Civil Aviation Authority and the Air Accident Investigation Branch.

The CAA said a burst tyre was the “primary cause” of the crash in Paris last month in which 113 people died, and modifications to the fleet could take “months rather than weeks”.
