Meet the people: the flame will have journeyed through more than 1,000 Australian towns and suburbs, passing within one hour’s drive of 85% of the Australian population.


Modes of transport: during its marathon journey, the Torch will have dived the Great Barrier Reef, travelled by camel across Cable Beach (Western Australia), undertaken two train voyages, the Great South Pacific Orient Express and the Indian Pacific, and travelled by high-speed ferry across the Bass Strait to Tasmania.


Sporting chance: by the time the Torch arrives in Sydney for the Games, it will have been carried by 10,000 runners
