Latest tourist arrival figures spell record-breaking 2000
AUSTRALIA is on target to deliver record tourist arrivals this year, with 1.6 million guests visiting the country in the first four months of this year, representing a 9.5% increase on last year.Australian Tourist Commission managing director John Morse said: “The figures for last year indicate that this year will be yet another record-breaking one for Australia.
“This year we hope to break through the five-million visitor mark for the first time.”
The ATC’s international visitor arrivals figures saw traffic from Europe rise by 12 % for the four months to April this year.
The UK, Australia’s third biggest visitor, is up 10.5 % for the same period, taking arrivals to 214,325.
Preliminary figures for May this year were also encouraging – with a 7.8 % increase in visitor arrivals compared with Maylast year.
