Marlborough to host wine event

The largest wine-producing region in New Zealand is to host the country’s first wine tourism conference from November 21-23 this year.

The debut conference is to be held in Marlborough on the South Island. The area has gained a reputation as one of the finest wine-producing regions of the world and is fast becoming a popular destination for tourists keen to taste the end product for themselves.

International guest speakers – including BBC Good Food magazine editor Sarah Jane Evans – will talk about ways of promoting the industry by developing wine trails throughout the country and it is hoped that within two years, these will be well established.

A spokeswoman for Tourism New Zealand said: “The conference will look at ways of promoting New Zealand’s wine and fine food industry. This is a huge growth market.”

The New Zealand wine and food product is set to receive a further boost when the Pinot Noir 2001 workshop takes place from January 25-28 next year.

New Zealand Pinot Noir is fast gaining in recognition around the world and the three-day workshop will take guests to the celebrated Pinot Noir areas of the country.
