In our regular market update, bookings for summer 2001 holidays are starting to pick up with customers being lured into agencies with discounts of up to 30%
IBIZA, Minorca and Majorca are destinations for last-minute travellers looking for some summer sun, but the best deals are for next year, according to agents.The big discounts are to be had on summer 2001 with up to 30% off on many destinations.
Steve Thorp, manager of Clippers Quay Travel, Loughton, Essex, said business was now picking up after a slack summer as a result of high prices.
Debbie McNamara, manager of Walmley Travel in Sutton Coldfield added:”It’s really busy. We are predominately selling for next summer because there are many deals around.
“A lot of people have stayed in this country and had lousy weather and are making sure that next year they benefit from the sun. The best sellers are Spain, Majorca, the Greek Islands and Portugal for family holidays.”
One Lunn Poly employee in Warrington who did not want to give his name, said:”Every week there are new discounts on summer 2001. The message we are giving to people is that it is a good time to book for better prices.”
A member of staff at Going Places in Lowestoft said: “We are also getting a lot of people interested in long-haul destinations, the Far East is popular.
“There are also loads of savings for next summer, with discounts up to 30%.”
