Braathens Malmo cuts flights after competition hits profits

BRAATHENS Malmo Aviation will axe flights between London City Airport and the Swedish city of Malmo by the end of the month.

The airline will stop flying its daily weekday service on September 25 to coincide with the cancellation of flights between the Swedish airport of Bromma and Halmstad.

The carrier, which is owned by Norwegian airline Braathens, said the launch of Ryanair’s Stansted-Malmo route in June has affected bookings.

Braathens Malmo Aviation also intends to increase frequency on Bromma-Malmo and Bromma-Gothenburg to meet a 5% increase in Swedish domestic travel and needs to reallocate slots and aircraft to compete in Sweden.

Braathens Malmo Aviation had been operating out of London City Airport for four years. Passengers who have booked for London or Halmstad services will be booked onto other carriers or be fully reimbursed.
