Singapore Airlines e-mail trial

SINGAPORE Airlines will trial e-mail facilities on its fleet of aircraft by the end of the year.

A spokeswoman for the airline told Travel Weekly the trial would be on first and business-class seats and it was likely to take place on a B747-400 aircraft.

The airline’s rival, Cathay Pacific, is preparing to be first airline to offer e-mail and intranet facilities to all by April next year.

Passengers using Singapore Airlines can already check changes to departure and arrival times via e-mail, mobile phones or pagers following the launch in July of a flight alert messaging service.

Meanwhile,Singapore Airlines has relaunched its Silver Kris Lounge at Singapore Changi Airport. It boasts 10% more space, additional Internet ports and can seat 650 passengers. The lounge cost £2.1 million to develop.
