Air Canada to adapt flight codes

AIR CANADA is to replace all Canadian Airlines flights with its own flight number codes.

From October 1, Air Canada’s flight number prefix ACwill replace Canadian’s CP code to coincide with the migration of Canadian Airlines’ itineraries on to Air Canada’s system Res III.

The move has reignited rumours that Air Canada will drop the Canadian Airlines name next year. Aspokeswoman for Air Canada said branding issues are currently being looked at.

She said: “The branding strategies for Air Canada and Canadian Airlines are not currently linked, however future branding is under review to be revised early next year. Everything will be reviewed from the product to the name.”

Meanwhile Air Canada has welcomed news from the UK’s Competition Commission that the merger between the two airlines is not working against the public interest.

A four-month investigation into the merger was launched following Air Canada’s acquisition of Canadian Airlines earlier this year.
