Web site gives details on commission
ABTA has set up a new feature on its Web site where agents can check the latest commission rates offered by airlines.
The association has contacted all the airlines operating in and out of the UK after a growing number of members told ABTAthey were unsure of airline commission rates on standard air fares.
ABTA claims to have had an excellent response from the airlines it contacted.
An ABTA spokeswoman said: “Some agents deal with airlines on a regular basis and are aware of the commission rates. But some members might not know various commission rates and they could then claim for the wrong amount. Airlines should, in theory, tell agents when commission rates are changed, so we are acting as another point of contact.”
The spokeswoman said the move to highlight standard commission rates had not been prompted by airlines such as British Midland following British Airways’ lead in cutting or reducing commission rates.
ABTA members can see the list of standard commissions payable to International Air Transport Association agents at www.abta.co.uk.
The site will be updated as and when airlines change their commission payments.
