Staff must be taken seriously

IF THE bosses at the top multiples could see our postbag every week, they would be a bit concerned.

We get several – sometimes dozens – of letters every week from disgruntled staff, moaning about their pay and conditions.

The situation has got so bad that when we recently got a letter from a happy multiple employee, we nearly fell offour chairs in wonder and amazement.

It’s no wonder the Transport Salaried Staff Association sees the industry as a great recruiting ground – it will be like taking candy from a baby. For their part, multiples have got to make staff believe they are important and can earn a living wage.

In one Lunn Poly branch, we spotted a sign advertising its Web site and call-centre numbers in the window.

How can staff be expected to hit their targets and earn decent money when they have to sell directionally away from their agencies?

Travel agency staff are at best disillusioned and at worst leaving for more lucrative jobs and who can blame them for their actions?

Their concerns have got to be taken seriously or the brain drain will just continue.
