Airlines start World Business Class revamp

AIRLINE partners KLM and Northwest Airlines are upgrading their World Business Class to increase leg-room and personal service.

KLMis investing £6.7 million in its enhanced World Business Class product which will see the introduction of a customised service, menu improvements and better in-flight entertainment by December 1.

Passengers on KLM wanting to sleep can opt for a supper/nightcap service instead of a full dinner service and both airlines are introducing Skybreak – an extra drink and snack between meals.

The first refurbished KLM aircraft with fewer business-class seats and increased seat pitch from 47 inches to 60 inches will be ready by November. The rest of the 747 fleet will be ready by March next year, with the MD-11 fleet following in late May. The fleet operating on European and medium-haul flights will not be reconfigured.

Northwest also hopes to complete its refurbishment by March next year and will discontinue its first-class service on October 1 this year.
