It’s time to unite against that commission decision
I have read with interest the debate regarding British Airways’ decision to withdraw commission from travel agents.
It has highlighted the fact that the travel industry is so fragmented, it could never take on a protagonist like BA.
ABTA seems to be pulling one way, while the numerous consortiums, who share the same goals, are pulling in every different direction.
One wonders what would be happening now if the industry had pulled together and united against BA’s decision and told BA’s shareholders that the trade would switch sell all BA’s products for a period.
The effect on BA’s current losses would have been impressive and might have brought a change of mind. A few years ago, BA and agents had a very good relationship and the carrier made good profits. Is there a lesson someone could learn?
