Why is Airtours taking away business from Going Places?

As an independent agent, I wonder how the staff at Going Places must feel having to fight their owners for business.

The scenario is a customer walks in looking for a specific hotel on a specific date with Airtours during November.

Having checked availability and quoted a gross cost of £609 per person, I switch into selling mode and tell them they are entitled to the adult saver of £50 per person and then a further discount of 15% currently offered to us by Airtours.

This brings their costing down to £476 (an approximate saving of 22%).

Thinking the customer will be quite happy, he proceeds to tell me he has been offered the same holiday direct for £269 per person!

As a former Going Places manager, I am well aware they may well be on a higher commission rate than myself but 55% discount against brochure price?

If I was a present Going Places manager, I would be looking for some answers.
