Guide to calm safety fears
THE EUROPEAN Commission has launched a draft regulation aimed at setting up a European Aviation Safety Agency, following the growth in air traffic and rising public concern over airline delays and fares.
EC vice-president for transport and energy Loyola de Palacio said: “The European Union will at last have the means to conduct a genuine aviation policy.
“It will enable us to continue to guarantee our citizens a level of safety that is among the highest in the world.”
The agency will issue one single certificate to European aeronautical products placed on the European market.
It will also “strengthen the free movement of individuals and services in the internal market”, according to an EC statement.
