Report by John Lavabre
TRANSPORT services across Britain have been disrupted
following the severe weather which has hit the south of the country.
High winds have bought down trees forcing trains to be
delayed or cancelled altogether. Eurostar has suspended services from Waterloo station
in London and has advised travellers not to attempt to travel today.
Heathrow Airport has reported “serious” disruption to its
services, made worse by the cancellation of rail services to the airport. A
spokeswoman for Gatwick Airport said decisions are being made on a “flight by
flight” basis. Services from Stansted are unaffected, although there is only a
limited rail service to the airport.
Manchester Airport has been forced to cancel some shuttle
flights to Heathrow and has received diverted services from the south.
A spokesman for Scottish Airports said shuttle services to
London had been affected and said two transatlantic flights destined for London
had been diverted to Glasgow.
Cardiff International Airport reported some disruption to
services but is expected to be operating normally later today.
