Critical error by Thomas Cook’s chiefs
One Thomas Cook travel agent, who wants to remain anonymous for obvious reasons, has written to tell us she is working in a culture where senior management feel that the way to get the best out of staff is through criticism and threats of disciplinary action.
“We are treated to criticism about everything from window cards to leaflet dispensers”, she said. “For a manager there is nothing more demotivating than to be criticised in front of staff members.”
We have had many of these letters over the past few months and the obvious conclusion is there’s is no smoke without fire.
Coincidentally, several Thomas Cook staff have been away in Paris this week, on a management course.
Let’s hope they put some of the things they learn into practice.
