Telegraph’s ‘whingers’ take their revenge on Airtours
THE STORY about Airtours Holidays and UKLG distribution managing director Richard Carrick slating holiday whingers (Travel Weekly October 9) continues.
Many have patted him on the back and we can’t find anyone in the industry who doesn’t agree with the view that those who try it on need to stopped. Meanwhile, consumer groups have said Airtours should get its house in order before making such comments.
They point out that Airtours tends to get at least as many complaints as any other mass-market company.
More interestingly, fuel was added to the fire when Airtours was voted worst tour operator for the second year in a row at the 2000 Telegraph Travel Awards.
The awards were based on questionnaires answered by almost 6,000 Daily Telegraph readers and analysed by independent market research company NOP.
But surely this is some mistake. Cutting Edge cannot believe Daily Telegraph readers go on Airtours’ holidays.
The poll also voted lastminute. com the worst travel Web site. Perhaps its decision to move more business away from travel is a sensible one.
