* geilo expands self-catering capacity
The Norwegian resort of Geilo is looking to add 5,000 self-catering beds over the next five years. Marketing manager Siv Nesfossen said about 800 will be ready for the 2001/02 ski season.
* fjord line half-price reductions
Fjord Line is offering 50% reductions for children under 16 in its new holiday programme. Prices start at £280 per person for a 10-day holiday in a cottage in Voss, including seven nights’ self-catering and two nights on board the ferry from Newcastle to Bergen with a car.
* taber holidays offers gaustablikk
Taber Holidays’ Norway Only brand is offering the Norwegian ski resort of Gaustablikk, in the Telemark region, this winter. The resort is always the first to open each season and is used for training by many European teams.
* sas adds snowtime saver fares
SAS has developed new Great Snowtime Saver fares for this winter to support the ski promotions. London-Osterund (for the resort of Åre) costs from £199 return, while return fares on the London-Oslo route, which offers good train connections to Norway’s resorts, cost from £122 return.
* thomson expands norway selection for 2001
Thomson has expanded the Norway selection in its summer 2001 Lakes and Mountains programme. New features include the fjord resort of Voss, where it is offering three hotels, and a seven-day cruise with Norwegian Coastal Voyage. Clients travel by ship from Bergen to Kirkenes and return by air to Heathrow.
* cosmos wedding package sees surge in interest
Cosmos is reporting strong interest for its newly introduced Lapland wedding programme this Christmas with bookings up 10% on last year. The lead-in price for three nights’ full-board in mid-December is £659 with the wedding package costing an additional £699. Couples can be taken to and from the ceremony by snowmobile, reindeer or husky-drawn sleigh.
