Countries team up to invade Earl’s Court

Representatives to promote ski resorts

SCANDINAVIAN countries Sweden, Norway, Finland, Denmark and Iceland will be joining forces again on their Viking ship stand.

Between the five countries, over 80 Scandinavian suppliers and incoming agents will be represented including hotels, cruise operators, ski resorts and airlines. The ski resorts will be emphasising the fact that the northern Scandinavian ski season lasts longer than anywhere else in Europe – until June – and the features which make them suitable for families, beginners and intermediate skiers.

Sweden

Individually, Sweden will be showcasing a number of hotel developments including new designer business-class hotels and the expansion of the 704-room Hotel Gothia in Gothenburg. It will be completed next March and will be the largest hotel in the Nordic countries.

There will be a further 14 Swedish trade representatives including regional tourist boards, hotels, incoming operators and the Göta Canal Steamship Company.

Denmark

The Danish Tourist Board is launching its Denmark 2001 brochure as well as a separate guide for meetings and conference planners.

Copenhagen registered 180,000 UK bednights in the first six months of this year, making the UK its most important European market.

Denmark’s second largest city, Aarhus, is exhibiting along with the historic Art Deco Randers hotel, Destination Djursland, Destination Kronjylland and Danland.

Norway

The Norwegian Tourist Board will be launching its new Web site at www.visitnorway.com, which covers culture, history and nature and lists hundreds of holiday activities in Norway, as well as giving maps and travelling tips.

Users will also be able to order brochures on-line.

Winter tourism to thecountry will also be strongly promoted with two new resorts, Beitostolen and Gaustablikk, which are now available to the UK market in addition to Hemesdal, Geilo, Voss and Lillehammer.

All the resorts are investing heavily in new facilities and accommodation as they look for substantial growth over the next few years.
