Hire for Lower staff quits after memo dispute

Report by
Jane Archer

A SENIOR
employee of car-rental broker Hire for Lower has quit the company after
refusing to sign a memo accusing a colleague of looking like “a Martian from
planet Zogg”.

The
employee, who doesn’t want to be named, said she was just one of seven to leave
the company in the five days before she walked out.

The
employee who quit said she was incensed by the director’s treatment of Rose
Elliott, who was suspended on November 9 because of her appearance.

She said
Elliott had dyed hair, which she wore under a headscarf at work, but director
Nick Stolberg had seen Elliot outside of the office and slated her appearance.

In a faxed
statement to Travel Weekly Stolberg defended his actions and denied
losing seven staff. He confirmed that the senior employee had handed her notice
in but added: “She was due to be disposed of as she had not handled her duties
to the standards expected.”
