Survey shows threat to agencies
AQUARTERof UK travel agencies will not survive to the end of next year in their current format, according to a new survey.
Research carried out by Plimsoll Publishing looked into 1,028 travel agencies over a period of four years. It identified some unnamed market losers it believes will either disappear, be taken over or be forced to change.
The research was based on travel agencies’ amount of debt compared to their growth over the period.
The survey results identify First Choice, Hayes and Jarvis and Kuoni Travel as winners.
It shows the losers’ level of debt is 14.8% of their sales, they have lost market share and their sales growth average is dropping by 7.5%.
Survival of the fittest: the survey showed market losers will not survive to the end of next year
