KLM TO AXE 2,700 JOBS IN WORLDWIDE SHAKE-UP


KLM is to cut 2,700 jobs worldwide after unveiling poor annual results earlier this year. The reductions will be mainly in contract and temporary staff. KLM claimed it intended to achieve cuts through natural attrition. It is unclear if UK staff will be affected, although the merging of KLM and Alitalia’s UK staff is expected to lead to rationalisation this summer.


GRIEVE JOINS JETLIFE AS PRODUCT DIRECTOR


Bridge Travel former general manager of the City Breaks programme Gary Grieve has joined Jetlife Holidays as product director. He has been replaced by Jackie Osbourne.


AMADEUS LAUNCHES NEW BOOKING SERVICE


Amadeus has launched a pioneering flight-booking service on a new generation of mobile phones that offer Internet access. UK customers can book flights with any of Amadeus’ 500 airline partners if they own a Nokia 7110 mobile phone, which costs around £130 including a one-year contract. The service will soon be available on Ericsson’s R380 phone organisers and MC218 handheld organisers, which are due out in the UK soon.


CARRIVICK JOINS IATA FROM MAERSK DFDS


Maersk DFDS Travel former managing director Mike Carrivick has joined the International Air Transport Association. The move follows the sale of Maersk to Britannic Travel last November. Carrivick is a project manager in the Passenger Distribution Policy Department.


LOMAX TAKES UP ROLE WITH AIRTOURS


Martin Lomax has joined Airtours Holidays as general sales manager for the North and Scotland regions. He was previously sales manager at Virgin Holidays.
