Taba Heights to challenge Sharm El Sheikh

THE LUXURY resort of Taba Heights could replace Sharm El Sheikh as the top destination in the Sinai, according to Hyatt International director of marketing Europe, Middle East and Africa Allan Edgar.

Hyatt will be the first hotel to open at the exclusive resort, on the border with Israel, which will begin taking guests from July.

Edgar said: “It will take a couple of years for the international market to find Taba but I predict it will become another Sharm El Sheikh in the next three-four years.

“In fact, Taba will have more to offer, such as a casino, and while Sharm is out on a limb, Taba is near to Eilat so it will be possible to make day trips.”

Five hotels, including Hyatt, are being built at Taba Heights which has been designed in the style of a small resort village.

Each hotel will have a restaurant at a separate location in the village, as wellas at least one inside theproperty.

Edgar said: “This is an unusual concept. Operationally it is not too easy to do. But people get bored with eating at the same place for two weeks.

“The idea is to make people go out and visit different locations and not to make them feel that they are trapped in their hotel.”
