Manchester wins European airport of 2001 award

Manchester Airport has been voted European Airport of the Year 2001 by the Institute of Transport Management. The award celebrations marked the official opening of the airport’s ‘pay-as-you-go’ lounge in Terminal 2, which has been operational since January. Called Escape at Manchester Airport, the lounge is available to all business and leisure passengers for a £15 flat fee, but free to some airlines’ premium passengers. Pictured are, from left, Manchester Airport chairman councillor Brian Harrison, Institute of Travel Management director ofcorporate affairs Grainne McMorrow and Manchester Airport chief executive Geoff Muirhead.
