WEB-BASED agency Expedia has made a profit for the first
time.
Third quarter results issued by the company show profits of
$4.4 million, compared with losses one year ago of $21.4 million.
Total revenues increased year-on-year by 88% to $110 million
from $59 million.
Expedia president and chief executive officer Richard Barton
said: “This was a break-through quarter for Expedia. We reached profitability
one year ahead of plan.”
Barton put the company’s success down to the technology it
uses and the increasing number of people who make travel arrangements on the
Web.
