National Car Rental plans to open new sites in Birmingham
A WAVEof redevelopment to make Birmingham a centre for new and existing businesses has prompted National Car Rental to open a site in the city centre and expand its presence at the airport.
The site will be dual-branded with National’s sister company Alamo Rent-a-car, allowing National to target premium buyers and Alamo to concentrate on budget buyers. National Car Rental regional director John Mott said the company’s investment is in direct response to recent growth initiatives within Birmingham city centre.
“Huge increases in the number of residential properties, and a growing emphasis on Birmingham as a focal point for the business community is prompting an increased need for additional transport options as car-parking space is now becoming a premium commodity,” he said.
Plans to develop residential and hourly car-rental schemes are also under discussion for the Birmingham site, which opened this month.
More dual-branded sites will be rolled out later in the year as part of the US-owned company’s UK expansion.
National is also looking to redevelop its site at Birmingham Airport as a result of recent research.
The study indicates that the number of visitors travelling by air to the city could reach 10 million within the next three years.
