Family-friendly strategy won’t help this year
News of the Cyprus Tourist Office’s strategy to improve Ayia Napa’s tarnished image as family bookings grind to a halt (Travel Weekly April 23) is music to all specialists’ ears.
Sadly, it will not provide any help to those hit by this year’s booking disaster.
It is reassuring to know the CTO has understood the Association of Greek Travel Agents members and that it acknowledges the need to reinstate Ayia Napa as the island’s family-friendly resort.
To try to keep the clubbers in the months of July and August, as well as attract families, is not possible and the CTO cannot possibly hope to convince the trade it is.
Perhaps what is needed is a specific promotional campaign from the CTO, in conjunction with AGTA and its members, to push the positive message of Ayia Napa to the UK market.
Joint promotions might mean an extra spend for the CTO, but it will be moneywell spent and an investment for the future.
