Thomson finds holidaymakers more adventurous

BRITISH holidaymakers are becoming more adventurous, tour
operator Thomson has claimed.

The company’s Holidaymaker Report, which looks at trends
within the holiday market, has found demand to participate in activities such
as watersports, sailing trips and cultural trips has increased by 50% in the
past ten years. Demand to learn new skills such as wine tasting and DJing has increased
by the same amount.

Thomson put this trend down to a more affluent society and a
desire to escape workplace stress. More than a quarter of respondents said
learning a new skill is the best way to unwind while they’re away.

The report also found the Dominican Republic, Turkey and
Egypt, which all suffered as tourist destinations because of either natural
disasters or safety issues, are regaining their position in the market.
