Case study: Virginia White, 28
TWENTY-eight-year-oldVirginia White from Sydney spent a year temping for AA Appointments while over in the UK on a working holiday visa.
She said: “The systems and processes are the same, so it’s easy to adjust to working in a UK travel agency. Even if you have not used your new employers’ reservation system it’s easy to cross-train. Most people I’ve worked with in Australia do their first three to four years over there in an agency then come across to the UK.
“It’s great because it means you can get more experience, perhaps in some area that you haven’t worked in before, so there is more to put on your CV. Also, if you work as a long-term temp, the chances are you will move around within the company, so you get a wide range of experience.”
