New timetable
GBAirways cautious over new Africa flights
Report by LYDIAWILSON
GB AIRWAYS launched its new winter timetable last week with a warning that its North Africa services are under weekly review.
The British Airways franchise carrier said that although it has timetabled new routes to the Moroccan cities of Agadir and Marrakesh, bookings to the Canaries and Iberian Peninsula have picked up quicker than services to the predominantly Muslim countries of Morocco and Tunisia since last month’s attacks on the US.
Head of UK and Ireland sales Nick Sharps said: “We are working with the tourist boards in Morocco and Tunisia and running fam trips to both countries, so we don’t want to have to consolidate or cut back. But if sales drop off on any route, we will examine what we’re doing.”
GB Airways is also targeting the Canaries with thrice-weekly services from Gatwick to Lanzarote and Gran Canaria. New special offer fares to Spain,Portugal, Gibraltar and France are also intended to boost midweek traffic to the Iberian Peninsula.
The flight offers, leading in at £89 return from Gatwick to Nantes, are valid mid-week until December 12, and from January 1 to February 14 2002.
