Bookings dry up as world waits for political fallout

Destinations worldwide are reeling from the impact of the terrorist attacks on the US. Fiona Robinson examines how major holiday destinations have been affected

SEPTEMBER and October are traditionally slow months for travel, but in the wake of the attacks in the US, tour operators are reporting flat sales for late bookings, with business down on last year.

A month after the attacks, holidaymakers still appear to be reluctant to book, preferring to take brochures away and review the political situation before making a decision. The current round of discounts is also failing to shift the public.

Travel Weekly has compiled a snapshot of global destinations to reveal the holiday hot-spots feeling the pinch and and those reaping thebenefits of a shift in sales.
