National and Alamo to honour bookings for US
NATIONAL Car Rental and Alamo Rent A Car will continue to honour UK agents’ bookings for car hire in the US despite parent company ANCRental Corporation filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in the US.
The Florida-based firm has suffered badly in the wake of September 11 with fewer people travelling to the US.
The Sunshine State in particular has been badly hit by the crisis.
But ANC International senior vice-president general manager pan-Europe John Leigh has insisted the move will not affect agents in the UK.
“All existing and future reservations will be honoured and customers will receive the same standard of service offered in the past,” Leigh said.
He said all the National and Alamo UK outlets are open and operating as normal.
Under US law, Chapter 11 protects companies which are insolvent from creditors and gives them time to produce a viable business plan so they can continue trading.
Leigh added that members of National’s Emerald Club loyalty scheme will still be able to use and earn points in the US.
