THE
English Tourism Council has secured a £3.6 million grant from the Government to
enhance its on-line booking and information service.
Cash
will be used to make www.englandnet.org.uk more comprehensive with
up-to-the-minute information, prices and deals on accommodation and
attractions.
Screens
with the latest tourist information are also being set up in post offices and
libraries in key areas, especially those affected by last year’s foot and mouth
outbreak.
The
ETC is also exploring the possibility of making information available on mobile
phones, as well as on touch-screen boards around England.
Culture
secretary Tessa Jowell said: “To stay competitive, English tourism must
provide what the customer wants and that includes real-time, quality-assured
information and the ability to book holidays on-line.”
