Carnival orders third new ship

CARNIVAL Cruise Line has ordered the third in a new series of 84,000-ton ships at a cost of $375m. The 2,112-passenger vessel, to be called Carnival Legend, will be delivered in 2002.

It will feature a wedding chapel, a conference centre and a two-level fitness centre. Some 80% of cabins will have an ocean view. Carnival Legend will be a sister ship to Carnival Spirit and Carnival Pride, both of which are due to enter service in 2001. All three ships are being built by Kvaerner Masa-Yards in Finland.

Meanwhile, Carnival Corporation reported a 22.8% rise in net profit to $1.03bn for the year ending November 30.
