FLIGHTS at Gatwick are returning to normal this
morning following the closure of the North Terminal yesterday.
The decision to close one part of the airport, which
resulted in cancelled flights and long delays, was made after a hand grenade
was found in a passenger’s luggage.
A 37-year-old Venezuelan is still being
questioned by anti-terrorism police after being caught trying to smuggle the
live grenade through customs.
The North Terminal has since reopened, but a number of
short-haul inbound services from destinations such as Amsterdam, Paris and
Frankfurt had been cancelled.
At Heathrow, four people are being questioned by
anti-terrorist police following their arrest on Thursday, with heightened
security continuing for the fourth day.
At Stansted, the access road has been closed due to
increased security measures.
