THE trade has called for more to be done to promote
the benefits of a package holiday as consumers become increasingly aware of how
to book independently.
Operators were on the defensive following a survey by
investment bank Goldman Sachs, which claimed independent bookings were on
average 26.2% cheaper than brochure prices.
MyTravel distribution and charter tour operations
managing director Steve Endacott said it was up to ABTA or the Federation of
Tour Operators to increase public awareness. “There’s a lot more to holidays
than a flight and accommodation,” he said.
Elements often over-looked
include transfers, reps in resort, financial protection and hotels that meet
health and safety standards, he said.
