ABTA has predicted 1.85 million holidaymakers will
travel overseas this bank holiday weekend as the trade moves into the peak
summer season.
Mainland Spain, the Canary and the Balearic Islands,
Turkey and Italy are the best-selling short-haul destinations. In the long-haul
market, Florida and New York are proving popular because of the strength of the
pound against the US dollar.
Figures show over 1.2 milliion
holidaymakers will be flying out of UK airports with 800,000 departing the
seven British Airports Authority airports – 60,000 out of Birmingham, 135,000
from Manchester, 35,000 from East Midlands and 74,500 from Luton.
