TOURISM Alliance believes it is winning the fight for
tax breaks for the UK industry.
Chairman Digby Jones said the Government is starting
to understand how under-funded the industry is and what “a jewel in the crown”
the travel sector is for the country.
Travel employs 2.5 million people and is responsible
for around 7% of the country’s gross domestic product.
Jones claimed for every £1 the Goverment gives the
industry it makes £25, of which £4 is returned to the Treasury.
He is hopeful the Government
will give the industry “substantial financial help” including a tax reduction
in the next year.
